Call to Worship

Blessed is the man
who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.

He is like a tree
planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers…

for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

— Psalm 1:1–3, 6 (ESV)

To all who are weary and need rest;
To all who mourn and long for comfort;
To all who feel worthless and wonder if God even cares;
To all who are weak and fail and desire strength;
To all who sin and need a Savior —
This church opens wide her doors with a welcome from Jesus,
the mighty Friend of sinners, the Ally of His enemies,
the Defender of the indefensible,
the Justifier of those who have no excuses left…

Song of Adoration

Psalm 16 (Fullness of Joy)

Verse 1
Preserve me O God
For I find rest in You alone
I say to the Lord
You are my Lord I have no good
Apart from You

Verse 2
All sons and daughters
Brothers sisters my delight
Let's sing together
No other gods shall satisfy
God You satisfy

Chorus 1
In Your presence
There is fullness
Of joy of joy

Verse 3
You give me counsel
My heart instructs me
In the night
You are before me
Because You're for me
I'm alright it'll be alright

Chorus 2
In Your presence
There is fullness
Of joy of joy
At Your right hand
There are pleasures
Forevermore, forevermore

Bridge
And my heart is glad and my soul rejoice
My flesh it dwells secure
‘Cause You put on flesh
Lived a blameless life
My curse on the cross You bore
Then You ripped the doors
Off the City of Death
And the chains fell to the floor
Now the serpent's crushed
It has been finished
And You reign forever more

Verse 4
You are my portion
My cup and You make my lot secure
The lines have fallen
For me in pleasant places
A beautiful inheritance

Confession of Sin

Take care lest you forget the Lord your God by not keeping his commandments and his rules and his statutes, which I command you today, lest, when you have eaten and are full and have built good houses and live in them, and when your herds and flocks multiply and your silver and gold is multiplied and all that you have is multiplied, then your heart be lifted up, and you forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery…

Beware lest you say in your heart, “My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.” You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

— Deuteronomy 8:11–14, 17–18 (ESV)

Most merciful God, we confess
that we have sinned against You
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done, and
by what we have left undone.
We have not loved You with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.

We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of Your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in Your will,
and walk in Your ways,
to the glory of Your Name.

Amen.

Song of Confession

Yet Not I But Through Christ In Me

Verse 1
What gift of grace is Jesus my redeemer
There is no more for heaven now to give
He is my joy my righteousness and freedom
My steadfast love my deep and boundless peace

To this I hold my hope is only Jesus
For my life is wholly bound to his
Oh how strange and divine I can sing all is mine
Yet not I but through Christ in me

Verse 2
The night is dark but I am not forsaken
For by my side the Saviour he will stay
I labour on in weakness and rejoicing
For in my need his power is displayed

To this I hold my Shepherd will defend me
Through the deepest valley he will lead
Oh the night has been won and I shall overcome
Yet not I but through Christ in me

Verse 3
No fate I dread I know I am forgiven
The future sure the price it has been paid
For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon
And he was raised to overthrow the grave

To this I hold my sin has been defeated
Jesus now and ever is my plea
Oh the chains are released I can sing I am free
Yet not I but through Christ in me

Verse 4
With every breath I long to follow Jesus
For he has said that he will bring me home
And day by day I know he will renew me
Until I stand with joy before the throne

To this I hold my hope is only Jesus
All the glory evermore to him
When the race is complete still my lips shall repeat
Yet not I but through Christ in me

Ending
When the race is complete still my lips shall repeat
Yet not I but through Christ in me
Yet not I but through Christ in me

Assurance of Pardon

All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.

— John 6:37–40 (ESV)

Giving

Christ our true Vine,
from You comes every good thing.

Apart from You, we can do nothing.

Our life is Yours, our strength is Yours,
our days and hours are Yours.
The work of our hands, the means entrusted to us,
and every gift we possess
have first come from You.

All that we have is received.
All that we are is sustained by Christ.

Teach us, then, not to cling tightly
to what was never ours to possess absolutely.

Loosen our hands, O Lord,
and enlarge our hearts.

As You cause us to grow in grace,
make generosity one of the fruits you bear in us.

May what you have given us
bear fruit for your kingdom.

When we give, keep us from imagining
that we are merely funding the work of a church.

Teach us instead to practice dependence,
to confess with our possessions
that every good gift comes from You.

Receive, then, what we freely offer,
and use it for the good of Your people,
the proclamation of Your gospel,
and the glory of Your Name.

For from You, and through You,
and to You are all things.

[If Northtown Trinity Church is your church home,
we invite you now to give as an act of worship.
If you are our guest, there is no expectation that you give.
Receive instead our gratitude that you are here among us.]

Christ our Vine, keep us abiding in You,
that our lives, our loves, our labor,
and all you have entrusted to us
might bear much fruit
to the glory of God.

Amen.

Nicene Creed

We believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
begotten from the Father
before all ages,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made;
of the same essence as the Father.
Through Him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
He came down from heaven;
He became incarnate by the Holy Spirit
and the virgin Mary, and was made human.
He was crucified for us
under Pontius Pilate;
He suffered and was buried.
The third day He rose again,
according to the Scriptures.
He ascended to heaven and is
seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again with glory
to judge the living and the dead.
His kingdom will never end.

And we believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life.
He proceeds from the Father and the Son,
and with the Father and the Son
is worshiped and glorified.
He spoke through the prophets.

We believe in one holy Church.
We affirm one baptism
for the forgiveness of sins.
We look forward to the
resurrection of the dead,
and to life in the world to come.

Amen!

Communion

. . . the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

— 1 Corinthians 11:23–26 (ESV)

of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

both now and to the day of eternity.
Amen.

— 2 Peter 3:18 (ESV)
